22 March – World Water Day reminds us that access to safe drinking water and sustainable water management is one of the essential prerequisites for public health, stability, and the development of society. And although water is a fundamental human need, the world continues to face a severe water crisis.

During the second day of the URBIS 2026 conference, two expert blocks will focus on urban safety, modern technologies, and practical experience from Czech cities. These panels will offer both a strategic view of integrating safety into the Smart City concept and concrete examples of everyday solutions in public order and municipal security.

Barry Singleton from Nexus Leeds at the University of Leeds also spoke at the URBIS Smart Cities Meetup 2025 in Brno. As a representative of the partner city of Leeds, he shared his experience in developing digital innovations, living labs, and smart city solutions.

The URBIS 2026 trade fair and conference, taking place from 2 to 4 June 2026 at the Brno Exhibition Centre, will focus primarily on practical issues and concrete solutions that municipalities of all sizes truly need today. The main cross-cutting theme of the upcoming edition will be the resilience of cities and municipalities, presented in a clear, accessible way that is also applicable for smaller local governments.

During the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, the company BVV Trade Fairs Brno. signed a memorandum of cooperation with the prestigious trade fair organizer Fira Barcelona, which hosts the world’s most important event for smart cities. The partnership connects the Central European URBIS fair with the global Smart City Expo platform and opens new opportunities for the European innovation ecosystem.

Teplárny Brno – a main URBIS partner – proves that clean mobility has a strong future. A quiet street in Brno has become the scene of a major innovation: the first-ever electric vehicle charging station in the Czech Republic fully integrated into a public lighting pole. The inconspicuous lamp post on Marie Majerová Street hides cutting-edge technology that redefines how cities can build infrastructure for clean and sustainable mobility.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic (MoIT CR) will once again lead the national participation at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 in Barcelona — the world’s leading event dedicated to smart cities, innovation, and digital transformation.

The URBIS project and BVV Living Lab will be showcased this November at the prestigious Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 in Barcelona. They will be part of the Czech national exhibition, coordinated by the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic. Alongside representatives of the cities of Prague, Brno, Plzeň, and Říčany, the Czech delegation will include ministries, institutions, universities, startups, and companies – more than 40 exhibitors in total, presenting Czech innovations for smart cities.

The topic of Smart Cities is becoming increasingly important for the development of Czech towns, municipalities, and regions. Today’s challenges require innovative solutions that bring sustainable growth, prosperity, and a higher quality of life. International experience shows that success is built on cooperation across sectors and levels, fostered by regular meetings and the sharing of best practices.

URBIS The Smart Cities Meetup 2025, held on 10-12 June 2025 at the Brno Exhibition Centre, confirmed its position as a key platform for the development of smart cities and towns in the Czech Republic and Central Europe. Over 200 companies presented themselves at the Brno Exhibition Centre, and nearly 400 speakers took part in the conference part. Approximately 5,000 visitors passed through the gates of the exhibition centre during the three days.

URBIS has undergone a major transformation and expanded to an international scale. This was highlighted at the official opening ceremony of the trade fair, which launched the program in the Rotunda of Pavilion A, serving as the main conference center.
