Barry Singleton from Nexus Leeds at the University of Leeds also spoke at the URBIS Smart Cities Meetup 2025 in Brno. As a representative of the partner city of Leeds, he shared his experience in developing digital innovations, living labs, and smart city solutions.
During the programme, Barry Singleton was actively involved – he presented the work of Nexus Leeds, took part in a panel discussion on living labs and innovation ecosystems, recorded a podcast, and established cooperation with a number of Czech and international partners. He also shared insights into building digital twins and using university campuses as testbeds for smart city solutions.
His visit also included expert meetings with representatives of the City of Brno, the South Moravian Region, the CzechInvest agency, and an international delegation from the US city of Peachtree Corners, which is known for its 5G-enabled test track for autonomous mobility. The discussions focused on international cooperation, startup support, and the transfer of innovation into practice.
The partnership between Brno and Leeds, which has existed since 1991, thus gained another concrete dimension at the URBIS conference. Both cities are united by a strong focus on innovation, citizen engagement, university collaboration, and efforts toward sustainable urban development in both European and global contexts.
Will Barry return to Brno in 2026? Stay tuned!
