Safety in Smart Cities: Two Key Conference Blocks at URBIS 2026

March 12, 2026  /  3:08 PM

During the second day of the URBIS 2026 conference, two expert blocks will focus on urban safety, modern technologies, and practical experience from Czech cities. These panels will offer both a strategic view of integrating safety into the Smart City concept and concrete examples of everyday solutions in public order and municipal security.

Smart City and Security – Different Paths, One Goal

June 3, 2026, 10:00–11:00

Czech cities are approaching the development of Smart City security in a variety of ways. Some have strong foundational security systems and are now looking for ways to build “smart” layers on top of them. Others already operate modern technologies but lack a coherent concept and clear integration of safety across agendas. Still others aim to systematically connect security technologies with key Smart City domains such as transport, technical services, IT, or energy.

This discussion, led by experienced experts, will explore these diverse models and address key questions:

  • How can cities effectively link security technologies with other smart agendas?
  • How can traditional “silos” between departments—IT, transport, technical services, safety—be broken down?
  • What is the role and importance of municipal technology organizations in this process?

The panel is designed for representatives of city safety departments and municipal police, technology and integration companies, municipal IT organizations, and all city units working with cross departmental technologies.

Safety, Situational Prevention and Public Order in Municipal Practice

June 3, 2026, 11:30–12:30

The second block will focus on day to day practice in safety, situational prevention, and public order. The discussion will draw mainly from the practical experience of municipal police forces and the Czech Police, highlighting cities that go beyond traditional “closed” models of operation. It will show how they connect security technologies with transport or crisis management and how their role is evolving into that of a modern safety partner for the entire city.

The panel will include:

  • Exclusive data from practice: Milan Fára from the Ministry of the Interior will, for the first time, present key statistics and insights from a nationwide survey on the use of security technologies in Czech cities and municipalities.
  • The newest trends in using camera systems for crime prevention and investigation.
  • How to set up effective cooperation between municipal police, the Czech Police, and other municipal departments.
  • Concrete experiences and proven practices from various cities that can inspire others.

The panel is ideal for chiefs, commanders, and senior staff of municipal police forces, representatives of the Czech Police, municipal safety departments, and anyone directly involved in maintaining public order and community safety.
