From April 24 to 26, 2026, Pavilion A1 at the Brno Exhibition Center once again became the hub of European patchwork, quilting, and textile art. The Brno Patchwork Meeting international exhibition offered visitors more than 700 quilts by nearly 200 artists from around the world, 42 exhibiting companies, and nearly 30 galleries representing both individuals and art groups.

Mgr. Dalibor Smažinka, MBA, LL.M. is one of the leading Czech experts in smart city security. For twenty years, he has focused on security technologies, physical protection, and the integration of security with modern data and sensor-based solutions. As a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Safety Engineering at VŠB–Technical University of Ostrava and a long-term partner of Axis Communications, he specializes in the use of intelligent technologies for crime prevention, shortening the response times of the Integrated Rescue System (IRS), and building cities that are safe, resilient, and at the same time open.

Sunday afternoon at Brno Patchwork Meeting belonged to the final ceremonial moment of this year’s edition – the announcement of the winners of the visitors’ competition in the Czech and International Quilt category. Here, the visitors themselves had the final say, casting votes throughout all three days for their favourite works among 35 selected quilts.

Saturday afternoon at Brno Patchwork Meeting traditionally belonged to the ceremonial announcement of the winners of the international quilt competitions. In the Programme Centre, the authors of the best works in the two main categories of this year’s edition were honoured – the creative competition 50 SHADES and the traditional English Foundation Piecing (EFP) competition.

Strima Czech s.r.o. is one of the leading suppliers of sewing technology for both households and professional workshops. At Brno Patchwork Meeting, company director Martin Zubatý presented a wide portfolio of domestic and industrial sewing machines, the latest innovations from Texi and Janome, as well as courses, servicing, and expert consulting. “Everyone could find exactly what they needed here,” he said.

The basic prerequisite for the long-term development of any municipality is a stably funded and well-managed school. However, the role of founders is changing dramatically. Mayors are no longer just administrators of school buildings, but are becoming key drivers of regional education quality. This growing responsibility, which fully resonates with the goals of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT) and the vision of Strategy 2030+, is reflected in the "School as the Engine of the Region" conference. The event will take place on June 4 at the Brno Exhibition Centre as part of the URBIS The Smart Cities Meetup fair. 

Reuse centres are among the most visible and at the same time most practical tools through which cities and municipalities can prevent waste generation. Their basic principle is simple: to give items that would otherwise end up as waste a second life. Furniture, household equipment, sports gear or construction materials can thus serve new users once again. Reuse centres support the circular economy, save natural resources and household expenses, and contribute to social cohesion in cities.

The HAIŠMAN s.r.o. stand was one of the busiest places at Brno Patchwork Meeting. The company presented major sewing machine and overlock brands including BERNINA, BERNETTE, JUKI, GRITZNER, and BABY LOCK. And as co-owner Pavel Haišman said with a smile: “We had loads of machines here.”

One of the largest and most eye-catching exhibitions at this year’s Brno Patchwork Meeting belonged to Šicí technika Brother s.r.o., led by Roman and Lenka Brzuskovi. Their stand attracted visitors not only with a wide portfolio of sewing and embroidery machines, but also with several new products that pushed home creativity one step further.

Earth Day, celebrated every year on April 22, is a global call for a more responsible approach to our planet. Since 1970, it has drawn attention to the impacts of human activity on the environment and has promoted the search for solutions in the areas of climate protection, sustainable development, and quality of life. Cities—where the majority of the world’s population now lives—play a key role in achieving these goals. They are both sources of innovation and places where environmental challenges are most intensely concentrated.
