Electric Innovations from Mercedes Benz Attract Attention with Space and Revolutionary Technologies

Two major electric novelties from Mercedes Benz — the new GLB and GLC models — were showcased at the AMPER trade fair. They bring revolutionary technologies, long driving range, and significantly improved practicality for families. We asked Radek Hrůza from Hedin Automotive Brno for more details.
What did you bring to this year’s AMPER fair?
This year we have two major new models. The first is the new fully electric GLB, and the second is the brand‑new electric GLC.
What makes these cars interesting?
Both models feature completely new software, a modern 800V architecture, new synchronous motors, and fast charging capability. For the first time, we are also showing a frunk — a front trunk that Mercedes has not offered before.
How big is the frunk?
It ranges between 100–120 liters.
What is the range and charging speed?
The rear‑wheel‑drive GLB on display has a range of approximately 630 km and supports charging up to 320 kW.
The GLC, thanks to its larger 94 kWh battery, offers a range of about 690 km and charging up to 330 kW.
What technologies enable such a long range?
The key factors are a new high‑performance heat pump for rapid battery temperature management and a two‑speed transmission that improves efficiency on highways.
Who are these vehicles intended for?
Primarily families. They offer more rear space and larger trunks compared to previous generations. The GLB also features a sliding rear seat.
Is the GLB available in a version other than electric?
Yes, thanks to the modular platform, a 1.5‑liter petrol mild‑hybrid variant is also available.
Is this a premiere at the trade fair?
The GLB had its official debut at the beginning of March, and we are exhibiting one of the very first units. As for the GLC, this is a complete premiere — the Brno dealership doesn’t have it yet; this one is here on loan.
When will the cars be available for order?
Orders are already open. Physical units will arrive at dealerships in about a month.
