Bavaria is famous for good beer, crispy pretzels, great soccer and beautiful mountains. But it also offers very advanced smart city technologies, which many Bavarian cities and municipalities use in their daily lives. That's why Bavaria will be one of the partner countries at this year's URBIS - The Smart Cities Meetup, which will take place from June 10 to 12 in Brno.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about innovative Bavarian projects in the smart cities sector and gain valuable contacts. Several interesting institutions and companies will be presenting themselves at the Bavarian stand, including Bayern Innovativ, Zentrum für digitale Entwicklung and Es-geht! Energiesysteme GmbH. Pretzels and beer will of course be available!

Bavarian experts will also take part in several panels, e.g. on climate neutrality, digitization in the energy sector and smart city education. Together with the South Moravian Region, Bavaria will organize an evening reception on Wednesday 11 June. The head of the Bavarian delegation will be Mr. Tobias Gotthardt, deputy to the Minister of Economic Affairs of Bavaria Hubert Aiwanger.

Bavaria's participation at URBIS builds on previous activities of the Czech-Bavarian smart-region. From 2021 onwards, an annual Czech-Bavarian meeting with representatives of municipalities, universities and companies took place. The aim of the long-term cooperation is the modernization and innovative development of the Czech-Bavarian border region enabled by the usage of smart technologies, which will lead to improved living and working conditions, especially in rural areas. The successful cross-border projects Polygon, PilotInnCities, Hydromun and QuantumNetX have been initiated on the basis of those Czech-Bavarian events. The last meeting of the Czech-Bavarian smart-region took place in 2024 in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, with a focus on smart energy and mobility.
