Winning Exhibits of the MSV Gold Medal Awards 2026
The 60th edition of the prestigious MSV Gold Medal competition recognized the best innovative exhibits at this year’s International Engineering Fair. The winners in three categories were selected by an expert committee chaired by Associate Professor Jiří Hlinka, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Brno University of Technology. The winning exhibits show how cutting-edge research, technical know-how and the needs of industrial practice can be transformed into practical solutions that make a real contribution to the continued development of the industry.
MSV Gold Medal for innovation in industry
VOSA 450 – Modular Training CNC Machine Tool
| Exhibit: | VOSA 450 – Modular Training CNC Machine Tool |
| Manufacturer: | VOPSS Řepeč s.r.o., Czech Republic |
| Exhibitor: | VOPSS Řepeč s.r.o., Czech Republic |
Awarded for:
An innovative modular design for an in-house developed CNC machine that combines hands-on training with productive use in commercial operations.
Brief description of the exhibit:
VOSA 450 is a modular training CNC machine tool based on standardized linear-axis modules that can be assembled into various machine configurations, ranging from vertical and horizontal milling machines to a gantry machining centre. The assembled machine provides fully functional mechanical, control and diagnostic capabilities and enables hands-on training in machine design, assembly, adjustment, maintenance, programming and diagnostics on a single compact platform. Its open design, with deliberately exposed machine components, makes their operating principles clearly visible while also providing direct physical access for practical training in alignment, diagnostics and maintenance.
Technology Trade Fairs Gold Medal
PEMA Scan adaptive laser groove scanning for robotic multi-pass welding
| Exhibit: | PEMA Scan adaptive laser groove scanning for robotic multi-pass welding |
| Manufacturer: | Pemamek Ltd., FINNLAND |
| Exhibitor: | Pemamek Ltd., FINLAND |
Awarded for:
In the category for exhibits at the specialized PLASTEX, WELDING, PROFINTECH and FOND-EX trade fairs, the award went to innovative software for adaptive multi-pass welding. Using laser scanning, it automatically adjusts the weld to the actual geometry of the joint, significantly increasing productivity and process quality.
Brief description of the exhibit:
PEMA Scan is a laser scanning and pass-planning software developed by Pemamek Ltd for robotic multi-pass welding. Before the arc is struck, a laser sensor carried by the robot measures the real joint and records its position and groove profile. The measured geometry is shown to the operator, who applies a stored multi-pass sequence or builds a new one, and the software then adapts every pass, root, fill and cap, to the groove that was actually measured instead of the nominal groove in the drawing. The result is accurate bead placement and even fill on joints where plate tolerances, fit-up variation and heat distortion would otherwise force manual correction. At MSV 2026 PEMA Scan is presented on the PEMA Skytrack compact robot welding station, which makes adaptive multi-pass welding available to workshops that cannot justify a large heavy fabrication cell.
Gold Medal for Outstanding University Project
BeamShape ElectronForge
| Exhibit: | BeamShape ElectronForge |
| Manufacturer: | BeamShape, s.r.o., Czech Republic |
| Exhibitor: | Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic |
Awarded for:
The committee recognized the way the project connects university research with industrial innovation in the development of a new generation of metal EBM 3D printers. The machine uses an in-house electron beam source and enables high-precision printing of fine details as well as the processing of demanding materials.
Brief description of the exhibit:
BeamShape ElectronForge is a new generation of metal 3D printer using electron-beam melting (EBM). Unlike common EBM machines it is designed for high-precision printing with fine detail while reliably processing metals that are difficult for other additive methods (copper, titanium, tungsten, Inconel-type alloys). Operating in high vacuum keeps the material clean and delivers excellent mechanical properties. The machine lets the user deliberately tune the printing process parameters and thus control the resulting material properties. It is being developed jointly by the Brno-based spin-off BeamShape and the Institute of Physical Engineering, FME, Brno University of Technology.
