The HAIŠMAN s.r.o. stand was one of the busiest places at Brno Patchwork Meeting. The company presented major sewing machine and overlock brands including BERNINA, BERNETTE, JUKI, GRITZNER, and BABY LOCK. And as co-owner Pavel Haišman said with a smile: “We had loads of machines here.”

Each brand was represented by around ten sewing machine models, along with several overlocks and coverstitch machines. We offered sewing and embroidery machines, so every customer could truly find the right one – from beginners to advanced users, from hobby sewers to companies,” explained Pavel Haišman.

According to him, the wide selection and emphasis on quality were the main reasons why the company represented these particular brands. “Every brand has its own specialties, patents, and strengths.
At the stand, visitors could not only see the machines but also try them out personally. “We offered two options. First, free hands-on testing, and second, if the customer took the machine home, we could also provide training so they knew exactly how to use it,” said Pavel Haišman.

A lot of attention was also drawn to the samples of finished products. Handbags, clothing, and decorations displayed at the stand had all been made using the showcased machines. “We love showing what these machines can create. My colleagues were wearing clothes they made themselves. For example, my colleague at the JUKI section had a jacket sewn by his wife on one of our machines,” he described.

And did the company owner sew himself? “My wife says all the devils sew with me,” laughed Pavel Haišman. “Unfortunately, I don’t have much time for sewing, but I enjoy it. I can demonstrate the machines, show zipper work, free-motion quilting, or mending. There’s just not much time left for my own sewing.
Visitors could easily navigate the stand thanks to the colour-coded layout of the brands. Red belonged to BERNINA and bernette, gold represented Baby Lock, and blue was reserved for JUKI.

One of the highlights of this year’s exhibition were the children’s sewing workshops led by well-known creative instructor Monika Brýdová. She prepared a simple project even for complete beginners. “I have a seven-year-old granddaughter, and I discovered that even a child her age can sew on these machines. They don’t need to use a foot pedal because the machine has a start-stop button. Kids love pressing the button and sewing,” said Monika Brýdová.

During the workshop, children created their own fabric drawstring bag, which they later decorated with textile markers. “I guarantee even a seven-year-old can do this,” she added. The workshops took place every day of the exhibition, and one major advantage was the adjustable sewing speed. “A beginner or child could slow the machine down, so they didn’t have to worry about hurting their fingers.

The true star of the exhibition, however, was the special edition bernette B79 inspired by the world of Harry Potter. The company obtained a licence from Warner Bros. Discovery, allowing them to create a limited edition featuring embroidery motifs inspired by the famous wizarding series. Visitors could admire the elegant black machine at the front of the exhibition – it was impossible to miss.

Right now, for example, we were embroidering a barcode on it. Customers could create their own QR code and stitch it onto a product, linking to their website or personal presentation,” Pavel Haišman explained as one of the machine’s technological highlights.

The HAIŠMAN stand clearly showed that modern sewing is no longer just about needle and thread. It is about creativity, technology, inspiration, and above all the joy of creating. And that was exactly what visitors most often took home from Brno Patchwork Meeting.
