FROM … TO Quilt Community – A Road We Share

The FROM…TO project brings together dozens of artists, styles, and approaches to quilt art. Originating from the training courses “Let’s Talk About Quilt Art!” led by Ildikó Polyak, it traces a journey from searching for one’s own artistic voice to confident independent creation, from inspiration to realization, and from tradition to free artistic expression.
Exhibition title: A ROAD WE SHARE
From searching for an own voice to finding ourselves, from learning to independent creation, from individual endeavours to team spirit, from inspiration to implementation, from ’That’s interesting’ to ’It’s awesome’; or an attempt to create unified collections of quilt art from some 40 different styles.
All participants of the four Let’s talk about quilt art! training courses, delivered by Ildiko Polyak since 2022, were invited to participate in the FROM…TO project. The first collection stipulated the use of a small piece of dark reddish fabric that Ildiko provided, whereas the second quilt of the same dimensions was to relate in some way to the first one.
We believe that quilt art means leaving behind the strict rules of traditional patchwork so that makers can express their thoughts, feelings, emotions, or concerns by stitching fabric and/or other materials. Quilt art encompasses and infinite range from the almost-traditional to non-fabric works of art. When the project was launched, we did not expect to be able to illustrate this colourful palette with our collections.
