Tatra Export, representing the Tatra Trucks automotive company, will publicly present the modernised military truck Tatra 810 M at IDET for the first time ever. Kopřivnice-based Tatra Trucks has improved this type of truck and will now offer it to both the Czech Army and foreign users.
The modernised Tatra 810 M (T 810 M), with 4x4 or 6x6 chassis, all-wheel drive and a payload of up to 5.2 t, closely follows its proven and successful predecessor. The basic and service-proven concept remains, i.e. it is a logistics and security military vehicle in the medium to heavy weight category (N2/N3) with a ladder frame and Tatra Rigid portal rigid axles, which have also been modernised. The front axle suspension is mechanical with coil springs, torsion stabilizer and telescopic shock absorbers, while the rear axles are fitted with leaf springs in a wishbone arrangement.
All axles are fitted with wheel reducers and axle differential locks, with the rear axles also having an inter-axle differential lock. The tyres can be inflated by a central inflation system to vary the pressure according to the terrain or to refill the air in the event of damage. All wheels are equipped with disc brakes and EBS. Thanks to the high ground clearance, the vehicle has very good ground clearance and the ability to overcome water obstacles by wading up to a depth of 1.2 m.
The weight of the T 810 M is approximately 8.8 t, the payload is 5.2 t and the total technically permissible weight is 14 t. The maximum towable trailer weight is 12 t. Compared to the T 810, the maximum gross weight has increased by 1,000 kg and the payload has increased by more than 500 kg. Power is provided by a six-cylinder, electronically controlled Renault/Volvo DTI 8 engine in Euro III emission class with a power output of 206 kW and a displacement of 7.7 litres with turbocharger and intercooler. By comparison, the T 810 had a Renault DXi 7 engine with 177 kW.
The gearbox is a six-speed manual ZF 6S 1000 TO, the same as the original T 810. The maximum speed of the car exceeds 100 km/h. The driving range is 600 km, the car's gradient is 60 percent. It is able to overcome a perpendicular obstacle up to 480 mm high and a 900 mm wide ditch. The entire structure of the wagon is adapted so that it can be transported by rail.
The skeleton of the T 810 M cab is the same as its predecessor, but the interior is modernised with better ergonomics and comfort for the crew, which can be three-person as in the original type. The equipment includes a filter ventilation device, weapon holders and a circular hatch with a lafetta for a Minimi 7.62 mm machine gun. As with the original car, the floor and engine cowling of the modernised version are armoured to meet the latest protection standards. Also new is the front grille, which stylistically refers to the design language of the new generations of the Tatra Force and Phoenix series. The cab is hydraulically folded forward. The modernised vehicle has newly designed and differently positioned boxes on the chassis for transporting accessories, plus a spare wheel located in a holder behind the cab.
In terms of the components and individual units used, the modernised version of the T 810 M has a compatibility with the previous version of more than 90%, which is an important parameter for existing users in terms of serviceability, the number of spare parts, the way the vehicles are operated and their regular maintenance.
