Patchwork Gilde Deutschland: the prestigious textile competition

April 15, 2024  /  8:37 AM

The Patchwork Gilde Deutschland presents the thirteenth edition of the "Tradition to Modernity" competition, which took place in 2023. This textile quilt competition takes place every three years and is characterised by the fact that it sets only a few rules. The members of the Patchwork Guild are free to implement their own ideas and show the public both which themes are close to them and what technical skills they have.

Our tradition so far is characterized by a highly respected jury that selects anonymously about 35-40 quilts. This year's jury consisted of Claudia Scheja (artist), Barbara Lange (artist) and Wil Fritsma (artist from the Netherlands). All jury members have exhibited their work in many countries and have won numerous awards.

In total, 69 works were submitted by artists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The selected artists include:

Ursula Bierbaumer-Bohle, Edith Bieri-Hanselmann, Christine Bünning, Andrea Dittrich-Ohm, Dr. Anneliese Jaros, Dr. Uta Lenk, Heike Dressler, Christa Ebert, Gabi Fischer, Die "Fitzel- & Turboquilter", Monika Flake, Heidi Förster, Karin Gelse-Voigt, Petra Hanke, Susanne Hegel- Meinhold, Helga Heroven and Birgit Bradler, Martina Hilgert-Vervoort, Ulla Hoppe, Jochen Hüttemann, Christine Naumann, Sabine Koch, Sieglinde Koch, Heike Költgen, Edith Kosiekvorm Walde, Gabriele Latz, Silke Liersch, Ingrid Meier, Maria Reuter, Adelheid Risi, Annette Rußwinkel, Ute Schappert, Renate Schmidt, Gabriele Schultz-Herzberger, Monika Sturm, Annette Tatchen, Heidi Zinner.

The exhibition was first shown at the "Haus der Geschichte" in Dinkelsbühl from 7 April 2023 to 21 May 2023. It then travelled to Helmbrechts to the local textile museum, where it was on display until 9 July 2023. Further exhibitions are planned in Saint Marie-aux-Mines, Steinhude, Bramsche, Fürstenfeldbruck, Deggendorf and also at the 16th Brno Patchwork Meeting in Brno!

We hope that you will be as enthusiastic about the selection as we are and that the works will inspire you to discuss, reflect and perhaps even sew your own.

Heike Rosenbaum, 1st Chairwoman of Patchwork Gilde Deutschland e.V.
