Oldwomen by Martina Holcrová – Traditional Weaving with a Story
April 16, 2026 / 4:15 PM
Martina Holcrová creates original textiles under the brand Oldwomen, inspired by tradition and nature. Her characteristic rag rugs made from worn textiles combine sustainability, craftsmanship, and a distinctive style. At BPM, she will present a new collection along with other original textile pieces.
My name is Martina Holcrová, and I present my work under the brand Oldwomen.
The flagship of my work are rag textiles made from worn fabrics. The patterns are partly inspired by traditional folk motifs and partly by the diversity of nature. I also weave custom-made replicas of damaged pieces. My motto, “Don’t throw your T-shirt in the bin—put it on the floor instead,” has guided me since my first weaving attempts.
Since working with just one technique would soon become limiting, I also explore more delicate textiles and use multi-shaft looms to create cotton and wool fabrics inspired by historical finds.
For warp threads, I use commercial yarns to ensure consistent twist, strength, and quality. For weft, I combine commercial yarns with hand-spun raw sheep wool.
I am a member of the Association of Folk Craftsmen and Producers, and my textiles carry the “Hanácke výrobek“ (Haná Regional Product) label.
For the Brno exhibition, I have prepared a new collection of classic rag runners as well as soft white cotton bedside rugs.
You can find my full range of services at Oldwomen.cz, behind-the-scenes insights on my Facebook page @staruchy, and more finished products in the physical shop “Ateliér UM” in Přerov.
