A love for handicrafts has accompanied Zuzana Dolínková since childhood and gradually led her to patchwork, which has become an integral part of her artistic work. Her exhibition Garden Celebration invites visitors into a world of natural motifs, flowers, and gentle nostalgia, where traditional patchwork intertwines with embroidery, Japanese techniques, and natural materials. She draws inspiration not only from nature but also from her travels and international courses.

Since early childhood, I have been surrounded by a love of handicrafts. As a little girl, I began with cross-stitch embroidery alongside my grandmother, and later I was captivated for many years by Richelieu embroidery. Twenty years ago, I discovered traditional patchwork, which appealed to me so strongly that it became an inseparable part of my life and creative work.

The exhibition titled Garden Celebration is largely an invitation into a world of flowers, herbs, plants, and natural motifs, which are an endless source of inspiration for me. My work is primarily based on traditional patchwork, which I like to combine with various techniques – most often hand embroidery, appliqué, traditional Japanese stitches (sashiko and boro), sun dyeing, as well as the natural dyeing technique of eco-printing. I most often work with natural materials such as cotton and linen. I frequently incorporate old lace, lace collars, embroidery, or crocheted doilies into my quilts, giving my textile works a touch of gentle nostalgia.

In addition to my own studio work, I am also strongly influenced by visiting patchwork exhibitions and courses both in Europe and beyond. During my travels, I have taken part, for example, in a traditional sashiko course in Japan and an eco-printing course on the Indonesian island of Java.

For more than thirty years, I have worked as a production manager in a company specializing in the realization of permanent museum exhibitions throughout the Czech Republic. For about seventeen years, I have been a member of the Bohemia Patchwork Club in Prague, where I have the opportunity to participate in organizing exhibitions, sharing experience, and meeting other passionate patchworkers. For the past four years, I have also been a member of the committee.
