Nature

Nature is the natural structure of our earth’s environment; the geology, mountains, elements and energies like water and fire, gravity and the stars, planets and moons, the weather and all things that are not created by humans. The current ecological crisis has brought nature to the forefront, as human intervention and environmental alteration sees the destruction of ecosystems and biodiversity, the extinction of animal and plant species and the ongoing implications of climate change. Nature can also reference to the way a person behaves and reacts. Personified often as female, nature holds spiritual affections as ‘Mother Nature’.

Monochrome

“Colors play an exceptionally prominent role in our lives. They influence our thinking, inspire our decision-making, and impact our moods. From causing changes to changing reactions, colors are more powerful than we think. Depending on our interpretations, they can be used for both good and evil. Fortunately, we have the power to welcome some colors and shun others” (J. Olesen).

Each artist was assigned one colour by the theme coordinator, and was free to determine their design including abstraction, an emotion, representative of something, a poem or a concept. All tints, shades and tones of that color were allowed. Some artists chose to add a small amount of another colour. At the end of the project, a collaborative piece was made, featuring each artist’s work.
