ECOGLASS: Czech glass optics for modern lighting solutions

ECOGLASS is a family-owned company that manufactures glass optics for lighting using a hand-pressing production technology that is listed as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. ECOGLASS was founded in 1991, and after exactly thirty years, the second generation of the family took over the management. The family company is the largest manufacturer using this technology in Europe. The company is based in the center of the glassmaking region, in Jablonec nad Nisou. Hand pressing from glass rods allows for great flexibility in terms of production volume. It is therefore suitable for the production of both samples and larger series in the order of hundreds of thousands of pieces.

The company's main production portfolio includes glass components for airport lighting and lenses for train and car headlights. Other applications include street lighting, traffic signal lighting, and various optoelectronic and industrial applications. ECOGLASS is also one of the few manufacturers that has reliably solved the production of secondary optics for solar power plants using the principle of concentrated photovoltaics (CPV).

ECOGLASS is a stable and reliable supplier of glass optics for street lighting. Glass as a material offers many advantages over plastic – high stability against UV radiation, temperature resistance and dimensional stability at higher temperatures, long service life, and high resistance to weather and industrial influences. Street lighting manufacturers who use our optics achieve high and optimal efficiency in new installations as well as in installations that are several years old. One of our successful optics can be found in street lighting in Kolín. A properly designed component allows for better homogeneity of lighting in the space as well as a wider beam angle, thanks to which even areas that were previously dark are now illuminated.

In addition to manufacturing, the company also offers a wide range of services. The main ones include the design of optical components, photometric measurements, and consulting in the field of glassmaking. Thanks to these services, we can offer a complete service under one roof: optical design + prototypes + photometric measurements (checking correct function) + serial production. We are happy to have the opportunity to work with customers from the very beginning of their projects. This allows us to recommend the type of glass or shape of optics that is ideal for both production and installation. Thanks to this work at the beginning of the project, serial production in the future is accurate, reliable, and, last but not least, as economical as possible.

One of our services is optical design. We can design shape of the optical element based on customer requirements. Our knowledge of the manufacturing process allows us to tune the design to reach optimal shape for all – proper optical function and mounting while maintaining cost-effective manufacturing.

One of our successful installations can be found in Kolín in CZ. On the enclosed image you can see a comparison of original installation and renovated illumination with our optics. Dedicated optics, which was designed by our company enabled more homogenous illumination and wider illumination angle.
