| Exhibit: | Methodologies for Testing the Synergistic Effect of PBO and Fungicides from the Demethylation Inhibitor (DMI) Group on the Efficacy of Pyrethroids against the Pollen Beetle, Cabbage Stem Weevil and Flea Beetle |
| Manufacturer: | Agritec Plant Research s.r.o., Czech Republic |
| Exhibitor: | Agritec Plant Research s.r.o., Czech Republic |
| Location: | Pavilion G1, Stand 027 |
Brief Description of the Exhibit:
The exhibit consists of two peer‑reviewed and approved methodologies presenting procedures for the preparation, execution, and evaluation of laboratory experiments that enable the analysis and quantification of the synergistic effect of various active ingredients of fungicides from the Demethylation Inhibitor (DMI) group and the cytochrome P450 inhibitor piperonyl butoxide (PBO) on increasing the efficacy of three pyrethroid active substances (lambda‑cyhalothrin – LC, tau‑fluvalinate – TF, etofenprox – ET).
These effects are evaluated against three different oilseed rape pests for which resistance to pyrethroids has been confirmed in the Czech Republic: the pollen beetle (Brassicogethes aeneus), the cabbage stem weevil (Ceutorhynchus pallidactylus), and the flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala).
The methodology enables determination of the lowest effective dose (from the perspective of synergistic impact) for the tested fungicide active substances from the DMI group and PBO. This dose represents the amount of a specific fungicide which, when applied together with a pyrethroid, restores full sensitivity of resistant populations of the three mentioned pest species to this group of insecticides.
The methodology also includes a description of the current state of pyrethroid resistance in the three mentioned pests in the Czech Republic, placing this situation in a European temporal and geographical context, as well as a detailed explanation of the mechanisms of resistance that are significant for these oilseed rape pests.
Furthermore, the methodology presents the reasons for testing the synergistic effect of DMIs and PBO on increasing pyrethroid toxicity and explains the important role that knowledge of these synergistic effects can play in mitigating the impacts of pyrethroid resistance under field conditions.
Reason for the Award:
The commission granted the award because the methodology demonstrates a high level of practical applicability, as it contributes to limiting resistance of selected pests to commonly used insecticides.
