International Fair of Footwear and Leatherware

Bespoke sandals and handbags as artworks

The workshop and incoming mission organised at the KABO trade fair under the patronage of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic and the Czech Shoemaking and Leather Association allows Czech companies to present their original offers and product ranges they wish to sell on the Czech market and possibly enter foreign markets as well.

Do you not wish to buy mass production, do you prefer timeless classics, but do not want to spend too much money? You may like to browse the offer of Czech companies that are ready to meet even individual requirements. At the KABO trade fair these producers are presented and literally “made visible” under the project MPO and ČOKA, which presents four companies.

One of the well-known ones is the NAPA Corporation, which is one of the biggest domestic manufacturer of gloves and currently almost three quarters of its production is exported out of the country, mainly to Germany and France. If you know leather gloves in their traditional form only you may be surprised at NAPA’s range of colour, designs, and materials, as well as their combinations. “Five years ago we were making almost exclusively just black and brown gloves, but the demand has changed and nowadays there so many colours that I have hard time counting them all. As the brick-and-mortar shops are not offering our entire range we also have a busy e-shop,” explained Bedřich Herel. According to his words the interest in luxury gloves is increasing and it is common that a customer buys her favourite model in several colour variations in order to match different outfits. The company, based in Dobříš, presents some innovations, such as gloves lined with special material containing silver that absorbs odours and has antibacterial action. People sensitive to cold will be happy to hear there are gloves lined with sheep’s fleece and rabbit fur. Currently the greatest hit, however, are driving gloves. “From the thirty thousand pairs of gloves we make per year approximately forty percent are driving gloves,” said the representative of NAPA.

M + M Rynárec is another traditional domestic manufacturer of leather accessories, specialising mainly in hide handbags with original design. The company characteristically uses crinkled leather, but every handbag is a unique work of art, designed by the co-owner of the M + M Corporation, artist Blanka Mudrová. The offer includes manager sets, men’s agenda bags, purses, key pouches, etc. “We are able to satisfy individual requirements of our customers and create an original design according to their special assignments,” informed Václav Mudra at the KABO fair.

Individual approach to customers is a strategy pursued also by a new company Faraon Sandals, which focuses on handmade sandals of classical timeless design, using high quality hide materials, especially cow and camel leather. They are ordered from India, Greece, and Palestine and are made bespoke in order to meet special requirements of the customers, mainly in terms of size. “We are currently offering 19 models that are not mass-produced but are hand-sewn to ensure the originality of each piece and pair. The quality of the materials guarantees long life as well as comfort of wear, because our shoes soften over time and ensure a perfect fit on the foot,” explains Kristýna Brožová from Faraon Sandals. For the future the company is planning to add finishing touches to the design of individual models in the Czech Republic, by embellishing with beads, rhinestones, etc.

The fourth corporation that presents under the MPO and ČOKA project is GLOBOS – expert in manicure and pedicure sets with top quality tools. Besides these sets GLOBOS makes also larger technical cases, key pouches, and promotional items.
