International Fair of Footwear and Leatherware

Awards for young footwear designers

For the fifth time at the KABO fair the Jan Pivečka Foundation Awards were presented to young designers of footwear and leather accessories. The trio of winners received vouchers to visit trade fairs of footwear and leatherware in Düsseldorf plus ten thousand CZK as pocket money.

The competition organised in co-operation with the Czech Shoemaking and Leather Association in Zlín and Trade Fairs Brno Corporation bears the name of the internationally renowned shoe expert Jan Pivečka, who was a patron of young designers and supported their creative efforts. This year the competition was held for the fifth time with 49 participating students of three specialised schools and colleges. The expert jury judged the finished products as well as artworks inspired by shoes and leather products – designs, posters, drawings, etc.

The winner of the FUNNY SHOE category was Aleš Hnátek, student of the Arts and Crafts Polytechnic in Uherské Hradiště with a model of a shoe with eggshell decoration. The winner of the YOUNG SPIRIT category was Uranbileg Altangerel studying also the Arts and Crafts Polytechnic in Uherské Hradiště with her model of mid-calf men’s and knee-high ladies’ boots with multiple zippers. The winner of the PROFESSIONAL VIEW category open for students and young designers under 30 years of age was Kristina Zemanová, student of shoe design at the Faculty of Multimedia Communication of Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín, with her model of full-hide men’s loafer with sophisticated crinkled and folded design.
