The government met at MSV for the first time in history

The Brno Exhibition Centre was the setting for an extraordinary session of the Government, which among other things discussed material related to the promotion of industry, export and technical education.

"The government unconventionally meets at the Brno Exhibition Centre and the reason is obvious. We contributed to the fact that 2015 was declared the Year of Industry and Technical Education in the Czech Republic, and today's meeting at the MSV is an expression of our support for this area. The Czech Republic ranks among the most industrialized countries in Europe, industry is the driving force of our economy and employment. The future of industry, its ability to modernize, its ability to find new markets, but also skilled workers will greatly influence the future of our whole country," said Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka. Government participation in MSV did not end with the actual meeting; many of its members attended the Assembly of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, the opening ceremony of the fair, supporting events, and of course visited exhibitors’ stands.

The Government discussed five points that concern the Year of Industry and Technical Education. They debated about the use of EU funds to modernize our industry and Prime Minister Sobotka expressed satisfaction that the Enterprise and Innovation for Competitiveness Operational Programme is one of the first which was able to publish the calls already this year and therefore drawing the funds will begin. "I am also glad that there is much interest among firms in drawing from the new European funds, which is also demonstrated by a great response to the first call launched by the Ministry of Industry and Trade," added the Prime Minister.

The discussion also focused on promoting technical education and the possibilities for improving cooperation between companies and secondary vocational schools. The Regions as their founders should, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, look for ways to improve teaching so that graduates could find their place in the labour market. "We need more dialogue between businesses and our education system so as to offer more training adjusted to the needs that will govern our labour market in the coming years", said Bohuslav Sobotka.

In the area of export support the Prime Minister welcomed the fact that a range of initiatives that improve the position of our exporters has been implemented in recent months. "Unlike in the past, we are not closing down embassies, but rather establishing some new ones. We have managed to increase the number of economic diplomats and managed to close an agreement between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Industry and Trade in order not to run jurisdictional disputes, but rather to devote maximum efforts to gain new markets. Even a turn in relations with China and the growth of our exports to China shows that many of the steps the government has taken have been effective," the prime minister reviewed the results of the extraordinary meeting of the government on the MSV.
