International Engineering Fair

The Province of Sichuan opens to Czech exporters

“China – A Partner for Czech Exporters” was the name of a conference which was held as part of the supporting programme of the International Engineering Fair in Brno. It was attended by a delegation from the province of Sichuan. This prestigious event was organized by the CzechTrade agency. Speeches were given by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic Jan Mládek, Deputy Prime Minister of the Sichuan government Mr. Wu Xiankui, CzechTrade CEO Radomír Doležal, representatives of Czech companies such as TOS Kuřim and representatives of selected companies from the Sichuan province.

So far, Czech exporters preferred eastern cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai etc. "I think that a visit to this fair is for our guests probably the first opportunity to get to know Czech engineering in full. The aim of this conference is to explore the potential on both sides and begin to make full use of this contact. Czech engineering exports to China account for about 26 percent of total exports, which is about 10 billion Czech Crowns. I think that this value is far below the export potential and especially the capacity of the Chinese market," said the CEO of CzechTrade Radomír Doležal. According to him, this conference is the first step to finding opportunities and next steps will follow. The Agency in cooperation with a Chinese partner is preparing a major conference to take place in the capital of Sichuan Province in 2015.

The event organizers are aware of the great interest of Czech companies in cooperation with west Chinese partners; they could meet with representatives of 72 Chinese companies exhibiting at MSV. The aim of Czech companies at the fair is to present their products and succeed in the fast-growing market in western China.

At the conference, the Minister of Industry and Trade Jan Mládek said that China was a priority of Czech foreign trade and the government supports the development of Czech-Chinese relations. "The aim of current policy is to further contribute to increased diversification of trade in countries that have significant trade potential. We want to open new markets to Czech producers. These countries no doubt include China because it has a steady economic growth. China belongs to the second largest economy of the world and probably will be the first in a short time. The economic boom in this country is especially taking place in western and central Chinese provinces. They are among the most important places for trading with Europe. We believe that there are many companies in the Czech Republic that will find their place on this market. There are trade possibilities in power generation, mining and engineering industries, aerospace industry, protection of water resources, etc. Also the potential in services is important, such as certification or consultancy.

"I am pleased that especially the last year brought great dynamism in the development of Czech-Chinese relations. Two months ago, a Czech-Chinese forum was held in Prague. Is result are already showing in collaboration of a number of regions of the Czech Republic with the provinces in China. I do believe that also the provinces of Sichuan will find their partners in the country. I believe that other regions and their governors will be active in the development of Czech-Chinese relations," said the Governor of the South Moravian Region and Chairman of the Association of Regions of the Czech Republic Michal Hašek. He added that he was very pleased that China may be the main partner of the next International Engineering Fair.

CzechTrade is an agency to promote exports, set up by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. The Agency, which operates since 1997, acts to help Czech companies and entrepreneurs to enter foreign markets.
