President Zeman on three main problems of Czech industry

The President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman visited the International Engineering Fair today. He spoke with representatives of Czech engineering companies and defined three major problems of Czech industry at a meeting with journalists, agreeing with the present President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic Vladimír Dlouhý. President Zeman described the first problem as the lack of support for basic scientific research and its poor linking with applied research, the second is the lack of support for technical education at all levels. The third major problem according to President Zeman is in insufficient performance of economic diplomacy.

The president called for more efficient work of employees of embassies, who are engaged in the search for new business opportunities, as well as for the increase in economic education of Czech diplomats. At the same time he criticized the situation in the area of visa policy, when he complained about the laziness and inflexible attitude of some officials. In his words, easier access to visas of other countries leads to establishing trade relations in these other countries.

President Zeman again commented on the topic of economic sanctions, which he described as ineffective. He spoke about two waves of sanctions, immediate and distant ones, and also that breaking up good business relationships can be done faster and easier than it may take to build them up again in the long-term.
