International Engineering Fair

Awards for the magnificent seven

Only seven industrial companies took part in all sixty editions of MSV: ArcelorMittal, Pfeiffer Vacuum, Siemens, Swisstool Gruppe, Šmeral Brno, Vítkovice and ŽĎAS. At the end of the opening ceremony, the Minister of Industry and Trade Marta Nováková and the General Director of the Trade Fairs Brno Jiří Kuliš presented them with a special award.

The seven companies that have not been absent from any of the sixty International Engineering Trade Fairs so far include both traditional Czech and foreign brands. The shortest journey to the exhibition centre was always taken by Šmeral Brno, a renowned producer of presses, forming machines and automated forming lines. The company grew up on the tradition of Brno engineering and its direct predecessor, Ignác Štorek Engineering Company, cooperated with Viktor Kaplan and produced the world's first Kaplan turbine. Today, Šmeral Brno is the world's leading supplier of transverse wedge rolling technology for steels and aluminum alloys, and their stand can be found in their usual customary location in Pavilion B.

Specialists from ŽĎAS came to the exhibition centre for the sixtieth time from the nearby Vysočina region – the traditional manufacturer of forming machines is based in Žďár nad Sázavou. The development of this city and region is linked to this company founded in 1951 and its story is also documented at the “100ries” exhibition in Pavilion A1. Today, ŽĎAS is a leading manufacturer of forming machines, equipment for processing of rolled products, metallurgy products and pressing tools. Their portfolio is presented at their stand in Hall V.

Two more awarded companies are synonymous with the industrial tradition of Ostrava. The current exhibitor, ArcelorMittal Ostrava, has been participating in MSV for 60 years under several different names, the longest as ‘Nová Huť Klementa Gottwalda’, but always as a steel giant. Today, the Ostrava-based company belongs to the ArcelorMittal global group and annually produces more than 2 million tons of steel; their stand is located in Hall V. And another Ostrava brand that has never missed one MSV: Vítkovice. The entire engineering group is presented at the stand of the National Engineering Cluster in Pavilion P and the producer of gearboxes and cogwheels Gearworks Vítkovice has a stand in Hall V.

Three of the award-winning companies come from abroad, yet they are closely related to the Czech industry. In Hall P, the industrial giant Siemens, the world's leading digitizer, exhibits their Simatic control system which also celebrates sixty years in the market this year. The Swiss supplier of machining and measuring machines Swisstool Gruppe is also housed in Hall P while in the neighbouring Hall Z you will find an exhibition of Pfeiffer Vacuum, a technology leader in industrial vacuum utilization.
