International Engineering Fair

20 years old 3D technology is still new

3D Printing - Trends, Experience And Business Opportunities was the name of the expert conference which was held at the International Engineering Fair. It was attended by representatives of companies that deal with the use of advanced technology to streamline prototyping and more productive manufacturing. The presenters included a number of foreign and Czech guests, including manufacturers, integrators and technology users.

"This conference is part of the overall presentation at the fair and is focused on 3D technology that includes advanced technology - 3D printing, 3D scanning and 3D machining, which is based on a digital model. The conference and exhibition in Hall A 1 are focused on innovative technologies. These help streamline product development, accelerate the process and reduce overall costs," said Daniel Adam, Management Director of MCAE Systems.

At this year's 3D EXPO show, organizers focused more on the depth of the issue than in the previous year. There is for example a luxury sports car R200 from Hoffmann and Novague, inspired by the legendary racing Skoda, and a unique amphibious vehicle Amphicar. Companies offering a look behind the scenes of development and production include MCAE system, SVOTT, Moravské modelárny, MB Tech Bohemia and others. Visitors can also see, among others, scanning for plastic surgery, prosthesis 3D printing, a simulation of robot machining and a number of specialized industrial applications in the automotive industry.

"We are introducing the context - the downstream technologies that essentially innovate the entire production process compared to traditional methods. We focused on top technology, which the company has been delivering on the Czech and Slovak markets for twenty years. Our partners are actually customers, and we are a kind of  bridge for them by being able to offer complete solutions. The exhibition shows how to present the use of these technologies in practice to interested parties and how to facilitate the process to companies which are still not using these technologies or are only contemplating it, and see how to get started," said Adam. He recalled that they offer not only technology, but also the so-called closure process, which means an offer to reach subsidies, to get a bridge loan etc. All that for example in cooperation with ČSOB Leasing. We just created a whole system for an actual start," explained Adam.

Although MCAE do not deal with exhibition design, they created the 3D EXPO project, because it's paying off. "Many people do not know that we have been supplying 3D technology for 20 years. They still think that this is a matter of the last five years, but the first 3D printers, scanning technology, began to be used since the second half of the 1990’s, and now have become part of a completely normal process. So sometimes the professional public learns about it retrospectively, and our goal is to promote these technologies, and remedy this disinformation in the media a little," said the MCAE management director.

According to him, the Czech Republic compared with Western Europe is doing well in using 3D technology. "It may be also our part, we began to import these technologies in the mid-1990’s, but it's not just about sales, but also about adapting to the customers. So we looked for other solution combinations, and thus we have helped many companies to make these technologies help them reach the top. One example is Skoda Auto, who have been using it for 18 years. There are more big companies - Magna, ABB, Bosch, Miele, Siemens, Autopal, Hella and more. Ironically, there was crucial interest in this technology during the crisis. Since the healthy companies did not get stuck in one spot and invested in these technologies, so that they could introduce new products into production after the crisis," added Adam.
