A traditionally rich accompanying programme is an integral part of the International Fair of Machinery, Equipment and Materials for the Wood Technology. It is prepared by Veletrhy Brno a.s. (Brno Exhibition Centre) together with the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Processing at Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry (LDF MZLU). The trade fair will take place at Brno Exhibition Centre on 20 – 23 October 2009. The project returned to its October date and exhibitors will be concentrated in the modern Hall P for the first time. The intention is to connect all represented areas in one complex and thus strengthen the synergic effect of the broad offer of this package.
The expert accompanying programme entitled “Wood – An Integral Part of Sustainable Development” will take place during all three days of the trade fair directly in Hall P. It will be opened by a national seminar under the same name, led by the department of forestry and wood economics and policy from the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Processing MZLU.
Electronic Inspection of Round Timber and Biomass Use in Power Industry
On the 2nd day, 21 October, there will be a specialised seminar with the topic of Electronic Inspection of Round Timber and Bio energy. Experts will be lecturing from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the stand of MZLU. There will be talk about scanning and evaluation of round timber dimensions, evaluation of timber quality and control and calibration of measuring equipment intended for timber inspection. Other interesting lectures will include Biomass use in power industry and Wood research – theory and application in practice.
The following day (22 October) is devoted to Current trends in machines and tools for woodworking and modification and compression of wood. Those who are interested will acquire information about Assessing the surface quality with high-speed working or Operation problems of saw discs for sizing saws. Further programme will also include surface finishing of wooden materials with low-energy cold plasma and its application in engineering and the wood-processing industry. This bloc will also include demonstrations of the works of students of MZLU in Brno, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology of research in the branch of woodworking, cutters and modification of wood”
Mapping of historical and current wooden structures
Historical and current wooden structures and constructional physics are the topics of the trade fair’s third day. Talks will concern reliability and service life of wooden structures, the programme also includes wood-based composite materials used for the production of wooden structures and material models of wood. A separate bloc will be devoted to current standard of construction and technical research as basic documents for the restoration of wooden structures of historical buildings. This part of the seminar will present current information about historical and present wooden structures, their mapping and restoration. There will also be some Demonstrations of the works of students of MZLU in Brno, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology focusing on historical and present wooden structures.
A competition for the public
The traditional competition titled “Learn to Recognise Our Wood” at the stand of MZLU will again take place from 21 to 24 October. The basic intention is to give the general public of all age categories a better idea of all the native woody species. People will learn to distinguish, the respective wood species microscopically and macroscopically. The advantage is that they will have the opportunity to touch the wood samples and to compare their hardness, colour, brightness, scent and other properties. The competition includes and exhibition of posters which will show and describe the main wood species of the Czech Republic. The contestants will have to determine correctly 5 wood samples, winners of prizes will be drawn from the correct answers and they will receive valuable prizes.
