WOOD-TEC 2009 – A Trade Fair Smelling of Wood

Days from 20th to 23rd October at Brno Exhibition Centre belong to already 11th run of the International Fair of Machinery, Equipment and Materials for the Wood Industry WOOD-TEC. The European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers EUMABOIS grouping 13 national associations representing the major European manufacturers of machines, tools and accessories – 800 national members – more than 56% of global production has taken the patronage at the WOOD-TEC fair.
Despite the global crisis that has also affected the wood industry, exhibitors show great interest in presentation and introduction of their products. At present, 248 companies from 14 countries (Belgium, the Czech Republic, China, Denmark, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Germany, Sweden, Thai-wan) are registered at the fair. The exhibitors consider their participation at the fair an investment for future and one of opportunities to move on from the crisis and give their businesses a fresh start. This is also proven by the fact that 82% of traditional exhibitors and many significant companies that are top companies in their field are registered. Among others, it is BALJER-ZEMBROD, BeA CS, Blum, FELDER Group CZ, HÄFELE GmbH & Co. KG, Hettich ČR, HOUFEK, ITALCOMMA, PANAS, ROJEK dřevoobráběcí stroje, Schachermayer, TEKMA, and many more. The largest stand will belong to Rojek (600 m2), Felder (500 m2), EPIMEX dřevoobráběcí stroje (450m2) and Houfek (po 400 m2).
For the first time this year, the exhibitors can use the b2fair concept organized by Brno Regional Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with partners of Enterprise Europe Network, and they can establish business contacts with partners they select in advance for their individual meeting schedule. The b2fair Project brings maximum efficiency for minimal costs as it combines advantages of a trade fair presentation and matchmaking. A company does not wait at its stand passively for someone to notice it, but chooses partners to meet with on its own. Business partners from e.g. Slovakia, Poland, Serbia, Hungary or Jordan are engaged in this project at the moment. The b2fair WOOD-TEC event will be held on 21st and 22nd October in Hall F.
An inherent part of the WOOD-TEC fair is traditionally specialist accompanying programme “Wood – an integral part of sustainable development” which will be going on during the whole time of the fair directly in Hall P. Within seminars, conferences and specialist meetings, topical issues, trends and news from the field of the wood industry will be dealt with. The topics will include for example Electronic inspection of round timber, bioenergy, energetic use of biomass, but also history, reliability and durability of wooden structures and many more.
The competition “Learn to recognize our wood” will again be on agenda of the accompanying programme. The basic intention is to give the general public of all age categories a better idea of all the native woody species. The contestants will learn to distinguish the respective woody species both microscopically and macroscopically. The visitors will also be able to look at the samples through a microscope, touch them and compare their hardness, colour, scent and other properties. The competition task is to determine correctly 5 wood samples. Winners will be drawn from the correct answers and they will receive valuable prizes.
