International Fire Fighting Equipment and Services Fair

IDET – a fair of technologies for better defence and higher security

On Tuesday 19 May, the gates of the 13th International Exhibition of Defence and Security Technologies - one of the most important shows of defence technologies in Central and Eastern Europe - are opening in Brno. It is an extraordinary opportunity for the Czech defence and security industry to comprehensively present its offer to potential customers around the world. The thirteenth edition will be held at a time of growing security threats and an increasing willingness of governments to invest in defence technology. This situation is reflected in an increased interest in participation: 331 exhibitors will be presenting on 19 to 21 May at IDET 2015, that is about a tenth more than two years ago. Together with the concurrently held international fairs, PYROS Fire Technology and Services fair, ISET fair of Security Technology and Services, and INTERPROTEC fair of Personal Protection, Work Safety And Working Environment, there will be a showcase of products and services of 450 exhibiting companies. Thanks to the time connection of the military, security and fire technology fairs, visitors will find an overview of the offer, updated information and new contacts in several related fields all in a single location.

IDET is crucial for the domestic defence and security industry – a traditionally very strong manufacturing industry, which exports about four-fifths of its production, and lately it has been doing well both in countries of Southeast Asia or the Middle East, as well as in the most demanding markets of the US and the EU. As it has been expressed on 11 May at the 19th General Meeting of the Association of Defence and Security Industry (AOBP), according to unofficial reports on military materials trade, 2014 has been the most successful year of our exporters since 1994. Other accomplishments of Czech producers should be boosted by IDET 2015 whose role in export promotion is actively supported by the Ministry of Defence of the CR. The Brno Exhibition Centre is thus once again the destination for a number of experts from abroad, including military and ministerial delegations, representatives of NATO, the NSPA and for the first time also a delegation of the European Defence Agency (EDA).

A dominant space at IDET will again be taken by a joint exhibition of the Czech Army and the Ministry of Defence, located in Hall P and the outdoor area between Halls P and K. It should symbolically represent a military base of a military deployment of the ACR, but for the exhibitors, the extensive exhibition space is an especially important demonstration of plans and projects of the ministry and the Czech government to significantly modernize military equipment. There will also be dedicated exhibitions by the ministries of defence of Poland and Slovakia and also the Associations of Defence and Security Industry in Hungary, Poland, Austria and Lithuania. A stand of the NSPA – the NATO Support Agency will also be present. This year's biggest exhibitors include companies like Excalibur Army, Tatra Export, Britain's BAE Systems International, Omnipol, STV Group, VOP CZ, Česká zbrojovka, SVOS or the Polish Armaments Group.

Military experts from many countries will head to Brno to attend prestigious conferences, their programme is particularly busy this year. The ‘Security Trends’ inaugural conference under the auspices of AFCEA will be focused on trends, threats and challenges in the areas of security, new technological trends for a safer Europe, and science and research as a means for development of society. The University of Defence traditionally organizes the CATE specialist conferences (Community-Army-Technology-Environment), with four sub-conferences on topics such as Military Technologies 2015, Distance Learning, Simulation and Communications, Safety and Protection of Information. In cooperation with NATO there will be a conference on Logistics and Ecology in the Armed Forces - Building Up of Multinational Logistics Capabilities (MO MLCC). Finally, the ever growing topical issue of cyber security will also be discussed in Brno.

The general public will likewise get their money’s worth, especially through the admirers of top military, fire and police equipment. Thanks to its large areas, the Brno Exhibition Centre can offer a truly unique spectacle of special vehicles in action and also dynamic demonstrations of IRS interventions. The venue of the supporting programme for the public, the IDET Arena behind Hall Z, is equipped with an outdoor polygon and visitors can enjoy, among other things, the increasingly popular unmanned aerial vehicles – the drones. The programme is also open to children thanks to the ‘Hasík’ preventive programme which will feature a simulated extinguishing of a burning house ...
