An interesting presentation was introduced by DuPont at the PYROS / ISET fairs. It is a mobile test device for testing protective clothing against heat and flame, which was presented in the Czech Republic for the first time.

"Testing clothes with this device allows one to monitor the differences in the resistance of protective clothing when exposed to flame in real time. It is a system with a life-size mannequin and a device. It is placed in a special chamber equipped with 122 thermal sensors. The mannequin is wearing the tested clothes and is exposed to fire with a temperature of up to 1000 degrees Celsius," said Jaroslav Bürger from DuPont CZ s.r.o. marketing. After lighting the dummy, which only burns for four seconds, sensors record the temperature rise on the surface and  a computer establishes the expected range of burns of second and third degree, that one would have suffered in similar conditions.

Tests are mainly carried out on special clothing for workers of companies operating in the petrochemical, gas and energy industries, who care about the safety of their employees. They can test the resistance of the NOMEX clothing against heat and flame in Brno, and verify the effectiveness of this fabric. It currently provides the highest possible level of protection. Thermo-Man testing equipment can of course be used by customers from the Fire Brigade, the Czech Army and the Czech police. Anyone can come to test their own emergency clothing. "NOMEX fabric is composed of fibres that are non-flammable themselves and are produced for use by workers in industries, where fire or explosion may occur. One is therefore protected in such clothing. Tests have proven that NOMEX clothing shows up to 35 percent less burns of second and third degree than the heavier cotton garments with a flame retardant. This increases the probability of survival of their users," Bürger explained.

DuPont is working closely with DEVA F-M, which is the leader in fire-resistant protective clothing on the Czech market and a member of the DuPont Nomex Partner programme. DEVA have been using their successful business model for 20 years, based on a specialized production of clothing resistant to heat and flame using cutting-edge solutions. They have become a respected manufacturer of high quality protective clothing in Europe and the world. The company has successfully exported 60 percent of their products to customers in the Slovak Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Australia, etc. "Every year we process 30 tons of NOMEX fibres and produce 6000 pieces of protective clothing. We have recently started the production of protective clothing using a new NOMEX ProVis fabric, which combines thermal resistance with high visibility," added Bürger.

NOMEX fabric is up to 40 percent lighter than conventional cotton, and therefore its users have a greater sense of comfort, which makes it easier for the users to work more efficiently. They also have a higher strength and durability. During PYROS / ISET, this presentation event by DuPont is designed especially for fire fighters who use multilayer emergency clothing made of NOMEX. The test chamber was brought to Brno from Geneva. DuPont have been supplying leading scientific procedures and technologies to the global market since 1802 in the form of innovative products and materials.
