International Engineering Fair

MSV 2017 – more experts at a filled exhibition centre

1631 exhibitors from 32 countries and more than eighty thousand visitors. This is the balance of the 59th International Engineering Fair, which took place at the Brno Exhibition Centre from 9 to 13 October. The 2017 edition confirmed the position of MSV as the most important engineering fair in Central Europe, and in a number of parameters it was record-breaking compared to previous years.

The success of the 59th MSV reflects the growth in industry and the positive economic mood in the Czech Republic. It is currently one of the European Union's economic winners and has been labelled as the European economic tiger at the Confederation of Industry and Transport assembly, which has traditionally opened the trade fair.

The optimism of manufacturers who invested in innovation and were satisfied with the interest of buyers and professional visitors was visible at the fair. High attendance and the desire to purchase are a reflection of industry's growing demand for new industrial solutions and technologies. The main topics of automation and "Industry 4.0" have been the subject of several conferences, but even more, the emergence of the fourth Industrial Revolution has been manifested mainly in exhibitors' expositions.

This year's foreign participation was exceptionally high. Foreign exhibitors accounted for 50 percent and companies came from 32 countries, with the largest representation coming from Germany, India, Slovakia, Italy, Austria, South Korea, and China. Foreign visitors have arrived from more than 50 countries and their share in total visitor rate exceeded 10 percent. The fair was also attended by a number of foreign delegations and business missions from i.a. India, Japan, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Cuba, and Germany.

India was this year’s MSV partner country; a land with a rapidly growing economy and a huge potential for entrepreneurial and business opportunities. The Indian Delegation led by Minister of Trade and Industry, C. R. Chaudhary, presented the government's "Make in India" programme, which supports new investments and the establishment of joint ventures. The fair was attended by over 80 Indian companies in the fields of metallurgy, power engineering, engineering, steel and iron works, industrial design and general engineering. Official exhibition stands were also set up by the Chinese provinces of Shenzhen and Zhejiang, Slovakia, France, Italy, South Korea, Germany represented by four federal states, Poland, Austria, Russia and Tatarstan.

The strong participation of Asian countries has confirmed the position of MSV as a fair that is a key trade fair, the gateway for Asian companies to the Central European market.

The trade fair is a traditional meeting place for politics and business. This year, President Miloš Zeman, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and Czech Government Ministers, Regional Governors, Ambassadors, Senators and Deputies, University Rectors, and representatives of professional associations from the Czech Republic and abroad visited the event.

The best exhibits have applied for the prestigious MSV Gold Medal. The expert evaluation committee has awarded six major prizes, which have been granted to exhibits presented by companies KSK Precise Motion, ALTEG Bohemia, KOVOSVIT MAS, PRIMA BILAVČÍK, ŠMERAL Brno and Technical University in Liberec. Honourable mention was presented to BRIKLIS.

MSV 2017 also included specialized sectoral trade fairs, TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS and ENVITECH. The biennial AUTOMATION project - measuring, control, automation and control technology was the highlighted topic, and thematic exhibitions “ElectroPark” and “3D Print” captured a lot of attention. In Hall Z there was a CNC Machine Programmer Competition involving 157 students from a record number of 36 secondary and vocational schools.

A very rich professional supporting programme took place in all congress halls of the Brno Exhibition Centre. The most important events included the Congress of the Confederation of Industry and Transport of the Czech Republic, two conferences on Czech-Indian cooperation, the Business Days of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and the b2fair Contact-Contract meeting. Expert conferences focused on current issues such as Industry 4.0, 3D Printing, Robotics, Energy Efficiency, and Support for Technical Education.

MSV also hosted a one-day MSV Job Fair, attended by 18 exhibitors from the Czech Republic and abroad and including a lecture programme.

This year’s visitors were presented with two innovations. During the MSV TOUR project, more than a hundred interested participants visited exhibition stands with technological innovations in pre-selected thematic routes. In cooperation with the city of Brno, the BRNO FAIR CITY project, which opened the city to the participants of the fair, prepared a number of benefits from the fields of gastronomy, congress tickets, supporting events in the centre of Brno, etc. The project will be expanded to other key trade fairs in the next few years.

The Press Centre accredited 399 media representatives from six countries during the first four days of MSV.

The Jubilee 60th International Engineering Fair will be held together with technical fairs IMT, WELDING, FOND-EX, PLASTEX and PROFINTECH on 1 – 5 October 2018.

Quotes about the fair

Jiří Kuliš, CEO, Brno Exhibition Centre
When the economy and companies are doing well, the fair is doing well too. The exhibitors again brought wonderful exhibits. This is not a Czech fair, it is an international and indeed a global fair that confirms that the Czech Republic is part of the global economy.

Miloš Zeman, president of the Czech Republic
I am almost as an inventory at the Brno fair because I come here regularly and I like to come here. I appreciate the work of those who organize the International Engineering Fair.

Bohuslav Sobotka, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic
I am pleased that we have a continuous tradition of 59 years of the International Engineering Fair, and I am proud of the fact that here in Brno we have such a beautiful exhibition centre, which is completely filled with the participants of this event.

Jiří Havlíček, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic
In spite of all the modern communication technologies, personal contact, trust and chemistry remain important among the partners that are indispensable in the business. The International Engineering Fair is an ideal opportunity to extend old friendships and create new ones.

C.R. Chaudhary, Minister of State, India
It has been a pleasure to visit the Brno International Engineering Fair. It is one of the most important and most prestigious industrial fairs not only in Central and Eastern Europe, rather in the whole world.

Tarvinder Singh Bhasin, director, EEPC India
Thank you MSV Brno! It has been a great honour to be a partner country of the International Engineering Fair 2017 and I believe this is the beginning of long-term cooperation.

Petr Vokřál, Mayor of the City of Brno
Two years ago, we as a city were able to take over shares in BVV Brno Exhibition Centre. And I am very glad that this decision seems to have been the right one. I have to say that this is positively reflecting on the economy of the city.

Exhibitors’ feedback

Jan P. Laštůvka, Managing Director, RUDL UP:
We are very enthusiastic about the fair, it is great here. Having an interactive exhibit, we can let people try it and they appreciate that. There are also people from other industries who are interested. All reactions have been positive. By having written about us, people come, saying that they have read it and they wanted to see it with their own eyes. Our website is spinning, today we have a television interview. For us it’s really great!

Tomáš Keprta, marketing manager, ČKD Blansko and TOS Kuřim:
This year's international engineering fair is definitely positive, the attendance was stronger than at the well-known EMO trade fair. A large number of experts, established partners, etc. came to business meetings. We can not complain about a large number of potential new partners either. Negotiations took place directly on each of the new machines of these two companies. The fact is, they are rather a matter for a longer run. As far as new contacts are concerned, we can not complain, we have agreed on further meetings directly at our premises. The most interested parties came from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, we also had delegations from India and from English-speaking countries. The companies were satisfied with their participation.

David Emler, Business Director, Nexnet:
The fair was very successful for the company, with more visitors than last year. That's why more people visited our exhibition stand, too. I can say that there were also a significantly higher number of contacts than in the previous year. I would consider the fair as one of the most successful ever. A number of business meetings were held.

Leopold Širůček, sales, Protechnik Systems:
It is obvious that with the good economy of our state, people are also interested in buying new machines, technologies, etc. That is why more people came to the fair in Brno than in the previous year. Our company felt this by making more contacts directly at the fair, which is very positive for the company. Apart from Czech engineers, our colleagues from Slovakia, Poland and Russian-speaking countries also visited us. Brno of course serves us for business meetings and company presentations.

Michal Žáček, robot sales, FANUC Czech s.ro.:
The engineering fair was a success for our company; besides the established customers, we were visited by other potential clients. We have made new contacts which we will evaluate in a few weeks after the fair. We were delighted that the stand was constantly surrounded by a crowd because we presented robots at work. The interesting thing is that we handed out 8000 robot catalogues in two days, and not even to everyone who asked for them. The company also comes to Brno to increase the prestige of the company.

František Pán, sales representative, GALIKA AG:
Our economy is doing well, as has been shown at the engineering fair. We had an average of 80 meetings per day at the exhibition stand, and we were visited by representatives of companies we did not even know. We even concluded sales contracts with one company from the Czech Republic and another from Slovakia, right on the spot. Foreign buyers from Ukraine, Poland and Croatia interested in our machinery also visited us. We are happy with the fair.

Ivana Geistová, marketing manager, Yamazaki Mazak Central Europe, s.r.o.:
The trade fair was very successful for the company, we already have positive reactions to our work. We presented seven machines focused on Industry 4.0. We are very pleased because not only existing clients visited us here but also new ones who were very interested in buying new machines such as laser ones. Compared to the past years, we have succeeded in selling, we have a number of orders, this year it is also a sales fair for us. The fact is, those who are interested already are absolutely targeted and demand specific machines. They even want to make an offer on the very day they came. Our exhibition stand is placed in a good location, the company and the visitors like it.

Ondřej Svoboda, director, Misan s.r.o.:
The attendance of this year's fair was above average. I was also pleased with the high attendance of secondary schools and universities, as we need the interest of students who will be recruited to become the company's employees. The focus of this prestigious automation event was also suitably chosen. The trade fair serves us to acquire new contacts, which has been achieved in Brno. The company would like to keep this topic in the future MSV trade fairs. Brno is also a social event for us, and so we had a number of meetings planned in advance. In addition, we use the meetings at the exhibition centre to conclude and sign contracts, which we also did this year.

Tomáš Duba, sales director, Siemens, s.r.o.:
We have been coming to the trade fair in Brno for many years and this year we are extremely satisfied with its excellent quality. For our company, it has been the most successful year in its existence. We have also built an attractive exhibition stand on a large area and in an attractive location. The company is happy to present at MSV and we don’t even think about not coming again. The fair is an ideal opportunity to reach our target audience at the time of electronic media. Investments in this event always pay off and we are surprised how many opportunities this presentation gives us.

Leoš Sehnal, Managing Director, SA Trade (PROMA machine tools):
This year's MSV seems better than the previous years. There are more of our target customers here who come up with specific requirements. We target secondary vocational schools, craft workshops and metalworking companies. This year, more tenders with European subsidies were launched, and so we are trying to offer secondary schools an optimal solution for teaching metalworking, and school representatives were strongly present here. We are happy with the fair.
