International Fair of Regional Tourism
The Trade Fairs were inaugurated by a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony
The trade fairs GO and REGIONTOUR have been officially inaugurated in pavilion P by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was performed by the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Milan Štěch, the Minister of Regional Development Kamil Jankovský, the Minister of Culture Alena Hanáková, the Cardinal Dominik Duka, the Governor of the South Moravian region Milan Hašek, the Mayor of Brno Roman Onderka and the Chief Executive Officer of Brno Trade Fairs Jiří Kuliš. Governors of Czech and Slovak regions and other important guests from both the Czech Republic and abroad were also present at the ceremony.
The traditional first stop of the VIP guests was the stand of the South Moravian region, where they were welcomed by the Governor Milan Hašek who invited them to visit his region. “We are a region of good wine and lively folklore. In our region the visitors can find active rest or untraditional experiences but we are a region of science and study as well,” he said during the opening of the South Moravian stand. The opening ceremony participants then visited the stand of the host city Brno and of other regions, tasted local specialities, and appreciated the originally presented offers and quality promotional materials.
This year the Travel Trade Fairs, together with the supporting programme, fill three pavilions of the Brno Exhibition Centre. REGIONTOUR, the only complex presentation of tourist possibilities in Bohemian and Moravian regions, takes place in the biggest pavilion P. The twenty-first year's highlighted theme is religious tourism and great attention is also paid to regional gastronomy, folk crafts, folklore traditions and bicycle touring. Travel service providers profit from current favourable trends of growing incoming as well as domestic tourism. Last year the number of foreign tourists was probably more than 6.7 million, which is a record since 2007.
Pavilion F belongs to the 22nd Travel Trade Fair GO which focuses on travelling abroad. Exhibitors from twenty countries present more than a hundred destinations all over the world, but it is not just a static exhibition. This year it is the third time of the stage programme “Sample Your Holiday” whose organisers are two biggest travel associations - the Association of Czech Travel Agents and the Czech Travel Agents and Tour Operators Association – as well as national tourist offices. Golf tourism, outdoor and active holiday are among the highlighted themes.
A very attractive part of the supporting programme is the 15th edition of the travel festival GO Kamera. This year's key topic is India and fifty interesting lecturers headed by mystery researcher Erich von Dänik or traveller Miroslav Stingl take part. The festival takes place from Thursday to Sunday in the Brno Trade Fairs Congress Centre.
GO and REGIONTOUR have a B2B character for the first day and a half and are aimed at expert visitors. They are opening for public on Friday at 2 pm and the biggest number of visitors is expected during the weekend of the 14th and 15th of January.
